Moringa is one of the most important medicinal plants in the tropics and subtropics. It copes particularly well with hot and dry climates and grows particularly in the countries of Africa, Arabia, Southeast Asia and on the Caribbean islands. 

We differentiate

  • Moringa olifera 
  • African Moringa: Moringa stenopetala.  African moringa grows more shrubby and broad, tastes milder and loses its leaves in winter. Asian Moringa is also mostly grown in Africa.

The tree grows rapidly from seeds or cuttings, even in poor soils. As the tree grows, the more it is cut back, the more leaves it will produce. 

It grows very quickly and can reach a height of 6 meters. It might be cut back several times a year. You should definitely plant it in your garden. The greatest yield is obtained by growing it field by field with intervals of only 15-20 cm. So you can harvest from him 7-9 times a year. All you have to do is cut back the new shoots to about 1 meter. 

Due to the rapid growth, the simple cultivation options, the multiple uses, as well as the numerous health benefits that it offers people, it is a real miracle tree.


With over 90 nutrients, it is one of the healthiest plants on earth. 

In India, known there as the Tree of Life, it was used in traditional Ayurvedic healing arts over 5000 years ago. It is said to be able to cure over 300 diseases.

Moringa in the Bible

Moringa is the green diamond for Africa and other countries in the hot regions. In Africa, Arabia and Palestine, endemic Moringa species have been around for millennia. Moringa probably also occurs in the Old Testament of the Bible when God's people wandered in the desert.

 

Exodus 15: 22-25. Moses let the children of Israel go out of the Reed Sea into the Sur desert. And they hiked in the desert for three days that they found no water. Then they came to Mara; but they could not drink the water at Mara, because it was very bitter ... Then the people grumbled against Moses and said: What should we drink? He cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a tree; he put it in the water, it was sweet.

There he gave them law and justice and tried them and said: If you obey the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right before him and keep his commandments and keep all his laws, then I will not cause you any diseases impose that I have imposed on the Egyptians; because I am the Lord your doctor.

 

Moringa as a tool of divine love and healing arts.

"I am the Lord, your doctor". This is how God reveals himself to his people in the Old Testament even before he gives him the 10 commandments.

The Gospels tell how Jesus turns water into wine. Here in the Old Testament he uses a tree, as a tool of his divine love and healing art. This water is not just water, but medicine.

Who is it particularly suitable for? To do this, we have to put ourselves in the people at that time. You have no chances. They feel ruled and disregarded by those in power. They believe that it is not in their power to change their situation. The resources are lacking, there is too little to eat and the power to stand on your own two feet is lacking. Use in the kitchen

The healthy power is in the leaves.

So far, the plant is by far the most nutritious crop. Numerous valuable nutrients and vital substances can be found especially in the leaves or in the leaf powder in an optimally coordinated form.

Use the delicate filigree leaves in the first place. You can easily remove them from the branches.They taste a little like peanut. The seeds are also edible.

  • Cook them briefly and eat it as vegetable 
  • steam them and use them like spinach
  • prepare in the pan
  • cook a soup
  • take it as a spice
  • drink as tea.

The leaves can be eaten fresh. Harvest them when they are at their best, ans store them as Moringa leaf powder for use in the dry season when few other vegetables are available. 

Who is Moringa nutrition particularly suitable for?

  • Pregnant and nursing mothers. It increases the mother's milk production and supports the healthy growth of the baby.
  • Children. Moringa contains numerous building materials that can have a positive effect on growth, especially on the development of brain and nerve cells. The high percentage of vitamin C naturally strengthens the immune system.
  • senior citizens

Use as medicine

The Moringa tree is a pharmacy. Most plant parts, including root, bark, stem, leaf, flower and pods, have medicinal value.

Moringa olifera has constituents with antibiotic properties. These same substances inhibit the growth of (cancerous) tumors. 

Caution: Do not take toot bark if you are pregnant!!!

Eating the leaves is not only very nourishing but also

  • helps malnutrition, particularly amongst children
  • helps in cases of diarrhea
  • increases the amount of breast milk
  • treats anaemia and ulcers. 
  • For diabetes: Drink tea made from the leaves several times a day.
  • Dizziness and hangover: Make a soup with the leaves and drink. 
  • Rheumatism: Pound fresh roots and apply to the affected area. Alternatively, roast some seeds, pound to a powder, mix with vegetable oil and apply to the affected area.

For colds, steep some flowers in boiling water for about 5 minutes. Drink as needed.

  • The roots are bitter and a tonic to the body and lungs. They are laxative, diuretic and enrich the blood. They are good in curing inflammations, chest wounds, piles and loss of appetite. 
  • Skin infections and scabies:
    • Preapare a paste by pounding the seeds and adding a little water.
    • Boil the root or bark of the branch and apply the liquid to the affected area.
    • Pound fresh leaves and squeeze the juice onto the affected area.
  • Toothache: Pound the fresh root and apply on the affected area.
  • Rheumatism: Pound fresh roots and apply to the affected area. Alternatively, roast some seeds, pound to a powder, mix with vegetable oil and apply to the affected area.

  • Wounds: Pound fresh leaves or scraps of bark, add a little water and boil for 10-20 minutes, allow to cool and them place directly onto the wound. 
  • Swollen lymph glands or bruises: Pound the fresh leaves or bark, wrap in a banana leaf and place on hot charcoal. When warm, place on the affected area.

Make sure that the water you drink is clean

Christ was thirsty - as we read in the Bible John 4. He sat down at a well and asked a woman to give him water to drink. He had a long conversation with her, but nowhere does the bible say that he actually got water from her.

The Christians of the old church ask: are you ready to serve Christ and give him fresh water? You can do it by offering it to the person who asks you (Mt 24). 

Fresh water was very important. Each monastery had to have its own well. They knew that water can make people sick.

You can easily clean your water with Moringa seeds.
