Cinnamon (Cinnamomum camphora)

Cinnamon

Cinnamomum verum is one of the tropical spice trees and is used in East Africa e.g. grown in Zanzibar. It is an important relative of the camphor tree. The inner bark of the young branches is used and is marketed as the well-known spice cinnamon. Essential oil is also extracted from bark, leaves and roots by steam distillation.

Like its close relative camphor, cinnamon is an important cure for flu:

Recipe:

- 3 parts of cinnamon powder

- 1 part cloves

- 3 parts of ginger.

Boil in 1 liter of water for 15 minutes. Drink a small glass every three hours.
